LaVera, Bobby Mardis’ mother has been passionate about missing Black girls in the U. S., and around the world. Black girls go missing at high rates, but that fact isn’t reflected in the national news coverage of missing children cases. In 2020, of the 268,884 girls and women who were reported missing. Nearly 34% of them were Black, according to the Nation Crime Information Center. There is also a high Hispanic population of girls missing. Many conversations about this subject matter have been discussed around a cup of coffee in the morning with his mother. Bobby was a filmmaker, who stepped away from his career for eleven years to take on the role of caregiver for his mother. Although this task was a sacrifice, it was also a blessing because this mother and son got closer as a unit to discuss world events, possible solutions, and ideas that will soon manifest into an awareness product that will benefit the girls. Bobby promised that one day he would tackle the subject matter of the missing Black girls in a film that would ease his mother’s mind. To kickstart Bobby’s promise and initiate the development of this film, as Bobby jumped back into the film industry, he is implementing this campaign. When Bobby was caring for his mother he took advantage of every free moment, to complete the script. After many drafts, the project is ready to be launched to a worldwide audience. This film will be completed in memory of his mother who recently passed. The conversations over the coffee will positively influence lives to help in alleviating the missing women issue.
